28/6 John and I went for a walk around Warsaw while Elsie continued to recover. We came across a cathedral that had been used to shelter people during World war 2 but the Nazis killed all the people sheltering in the basement. It was nice to speak to a lovely young couple who had gone there to pray about whether to have their wedding there or not. When we asked if theyβd like to visit Australia they said they would but they were scared of all our dangerous animals!
We also went for a bit of a shop and brought some groceries and I got just a little excited to see a cabinet full of assorted pickled fish- memories from my childhood!
29/6
Elsie was starting to feel a bit better so we decided to crack on to Cracow! It was a lovely 3.5 hour drive through fields do wheat and canola and little
Arriving in Krakow we went for a walk – Elsie was struggling a bit so they jumped in a boat to cruise up the Vistula river while I walked around the Wawel castle and cathedral. Originally built in the 12th century it was a huge impressive castle compound from when Krakow was the capital.
We then walked into the old town and main square which was full of beautiful old buildings and lovely oak and birch treed parks.
30/6- I wanted to do a bit of prep for our journey to Ukraine and catch up on a bit of work so I stayed at the apartment whilst Elsie and John went to Auschwitz. Ron and I had been before and itβs not really the kind of place you need to see twice. It is quite harrowing but also a reminder of the importance of shining the light of truth into dark places and not being silent about evil.
In between work I grabbed a few extra groceries including some beautiful fresh summer stone fruits from one of the many lovely little green grocers around.
